Barbara joined Buzzacott in 2018 and is the Head of our Tax Investigations and Dispute Resolution team.
She has a proven track record in successfully resolving complex voluntary disclosures and tax investigations, such as Code of Practice 9 and HMRC cross-tax enquiries, challenging incorrect and unfair HMRC tax/penalty assessments, quickly and cost effectively, while securing beneficial settlement terms for her clients with HMRC.
Barbara understands the needs and concerns of her clients, ensuring those with tax exposure are treated fairly and proportionately with the aim of minimising unnecessary tax, interest, and penalties.
Barbara is a fully accredited CEDR Mediator, internationally recognised as the standard of excellence in mediator qualifications. As a CEDR accredited mediator, Barbara advises on using mediation as a method of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve long-standing tax disputes and negotiating Time to Pay arrangements with HMRC. She has acted as a co-mediator alongside HMRC’s appointed mediator to ensure clients are given a fair chance in ADR to resolve disputes without the need for litigation.
She is qualified by the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), which is the leading professional body for those providing UK tax compliance services and by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), which is the global body for professional accountants.
Outside of the office, Barbara enjoys her acting classes and travelling, especially to Portugal, her native country.
