David Stears - Head of Valuations

David joined Buzzacott in 2023 and is a Director and Head of Valuations in our Corporate Finance team. 

David leads our Valuations team, which specialises in valuing businesses and financial assets, helping relevant stakeholders understand what truly drives or detracts from their value. The team undertakes valuations for a variety of purposes including share schemes, financial reporting and shareholder disputes. 

Prior to joining Buzzacott, David set up and led the in-house specialist Investment Valuations team at USS, the UK’s largest private pension provider, and was primarily responsible for the quarterly valuations of its large infrastructure, equity, and credit assets.

David has over 15 years of experience performing valuations, learning his craft in the valuation teams at Smith & Williamson and BDO before playing a key part in the development of a new specialist valuation offering at mid-tier firm Menzies.

David’s prior experience has taken him to places as far-flung and diverse as Australia, Brazil and North Macedonia, and has included engagements with FTSE 100 clients, government bodies, major UK utility companies and large multinationals.

Outside of work, David is doing his best to apprendre le français and continues to play sport regularly despite his obvious shortcomings.
