Is your small business eligible to receive a government grant of up to £25,000?

A reminder that on 11 March, in response to the emerging threat of Covid-19, the government announced how small businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors can benefit from grants to support them through the crisis.

Qualifying businesses will be eligible for grants of either £10,000 to £25,000.

Under the Small Business Grant Fund, all businesses in England in receipt of Small Business Rates Relief and Rural Rates Relief in the business rates system will be eligible for a payment of £10,000.

Under the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant, businesses in England in receipt of the Expanded Retail Discount (which covers retail, hospitality and leisure) with a rateable value of less than £51,000 will be eligible for the following cash grants per property:

  • Businesses with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000.
  • Businesses with a property that has a rateable value of over £15,000 and less than £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.

Various qualifying conditions must be met, for example, businesses must have properties that were eligible for the relief on 11 March 2020. The properties must also not be being used for personal use.

If you operate in the retail, hospitality or leisure sectors and need further advice on how to access the grants, please get in touch with your usual Buzzacott contact or fill out the form below and we'll be in touch.
