Tom joined Buzzacott in 2020 and is a Senior Manager in our Expatriate Tax Services team.
He works with private clients who have US tax exposure, ranging from high net worth individuals to accidental Americans. Typical challenges Tom supports clients with include managing cross-border taxation, in particular planning to avoid double taxation.
Tom and the team carry out US/UK personal tax planning, advice and compliance. He assists with problem-solving where the two sets of domestic tax rules interact with each other, and helps clients face subsequent challenges by not only explaining the technical options available to them, but by “making it real” by identifying practical and workable solutions they can implement.
Tom’s area of specialist knowledge relates to US personal tax advice for US taxpayers who reside in the UK. He works closely with Buzzacott’s investment advisory and corporate advisory teams to tailor his support to US taxpayers’ specific needs in respect of their investments or business structures.
Tom is dual qualified for US and UK tax advice, with both Association of Tax Technicians (ATT) and Enrolled Agent (EA) qualifications. He’s been in the US/UK private client tax space for close to ten years, having previously worked at PwC, Frank Hirth and US Tax and Financial Services.
Tom has a young son, so most of his free time involves being outside with him and visiting spots like the transport museum. Tom also enjoys wine and (someday) would like to take the WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) qualification.
