Audit, accounting and advisory services

Audit, accounting and advisory for arts and culture charities

You + Us = More. More support. More advice. More understanding.

We go beyond the statutory requirements to ensure compliance by considering your organisation's practical needs. Our auditors aren’t just reactive but actively look for opportunities to provide you with helpful advice and assistance.

We keep in touch with you throughout the year and attend meetings as and when you require. We’ll also seek input from your Board members to ensure our work addresses their key concerns. All of our recommendations are prioritised, realistic and practical, meaning you’ll see tangible benefits to your organisation.

In order for your charity to thrive, we know that you require support beyond accounting and audit and with all of our team under one roof, we’re easily able to advise you on areas such as HR consultancy, statutory accounting requirements, financial processes and controls, governance considerations, VAT and direct tax.

Tax advice

Tax services for arts and cultural organisations

The arts and culture sector can benefit from various tax reliefs and exemptions, but navigating these can be tricky. Our Charity Tax team provides tax consultancy and compliance services to various organisations in the arts and culture sector, including the Imperial War Museum, the Foundling Museum, the Freelands Foundation and the Almeida Theatre Company.

We’ve advised on a number of claims for the various creative industry tax reliefs such as Museums and Galleries Exhibition Tax Relief and Theatre Tax Relief. The team also provide broader tax services, including corporation tax compliance, employment tax advice, Gift Aid advice and reviews of charitable trading and tax risks.

The Government has gradually widened the scope of its creative industries' tax reliefs since introducing a relief for film productions in 2009. Since then, films have been joined by TV and video games (2013), theatrical productions (2014), orchestras (2016) and museums and galleries (2018). Our insightful guide provides a breakdown of tax relief for different creative industries within the Arts and Culture sector.

Gift Aid on membership subscriptions

Membership, supporter and friends scheme subscriptions are a useful source of income for charities in the arts and culture sector. Many of these schemes could be eligible to claim a 25% Gift Aid repayment, even when members receive a range of benefits from the charity in return for their subscriptions. Our insight aims to help organisations determine whether they're eligible for Gift Aid repayment and valuing the benefits and other opportunities.

Retention of Accounting Records and other Corporate Records

One of the most frequent questions we get asked by clients is “How long should we retain our accounting records?”.
