New carbon goals for UK law firms
Monday 5th September 2011
In a bid to change the attitudes of UK law firms, new carbon reduction targets have been agreed to by the 20 Legal Sector Alliance (LSA) executive members.
As part of their efforts to support the environment by lowering their CO2 emissions, a new LSA Principle will now be adhered to by the executive members involved in the scheme.
The long-term green targets which are set by these members should match the UK's current climate change legislation, according to the LSA.
The publicly-announced commitment to lower carbon emissions may encourage wider changes within the legal profession, alliance chairman Sir Nigel Knowles suggests.
He stated: "Meeting our climate change obligations will be increasingly challenging but our members recognise the increasing moral and business imperative for doing so."
The new carbon reduction scheme has been named LSA Principle 7.
