Beware the latest 'phishing' scams

Thursday 10th December 2009

We have previously informed clients about a particularly polished scam email doing the rounds recently with HMRC logo and warnings about fraud, etc and sent from an email address '...@hmrc.gov.uk'. We would like to reiterate warnings about this type of email and remind our clients that HMRC do not use email to contact any taxpayer or agent about the payment of tax or tax refunds and would advise not to respond to such emails.

Additionally, we have become aware of another scam involving a "Customer Satisfaction Survey".

These scam emails purport to come from one of the banks and offers to credit $50 to your account as a thank you for your time in filling out the survey and then asks for bank account details.

No survey should need your account details and we advise not to give any of your account details online.
